Agadir is well known for its excellent sandy beaches and sand dunes, however there are 7 9-hole courses to choose from with the wonderfully diverse play at Royal Golf d’Agadir, 3 options in the hills at Golf des Dunes to the courses at Golf du Soleil, which have a much more relaxed attitude to golf, making the game more accessible.
Courses in the mountains at Fez and Meknes provide a good location when the temperatures rise in the summer, allowing for a cooler climate to enjoy the game.
Many of the country’s courses are centered on Marrakech, with the jewel in the crown being Royal Golf, a par 72 5,888m course which was built back in the 1920’s. The course is set at the foot of the mountains, and it’s lined with olive and orange tree-lined fairways create a stunning location for golf, which has attracted the late King Hassan II as a regular golfer as well as the likes of Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower. It is also the venue for the Mamounia tournament, one of the most famous golfing events to be played in Morocco.
The Palmeraie Golf Palace is another excellent course to be found in the region. This Robert Trent Jones classic is made with pristine turf imported form America and has some excellent lake features and many bunkers to catch out any wayward drives.
The Cabel Robinson designed golf course Golf d'Amelkis is a technically demanding long course with many lakes and tree-lined fairways providing a challenge for the lower handicap players. Set in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, this has to be one of the most scenic settings for golf in Morocco.
Around the capital of Rabat, there are three high quality courses to choose from including the legendary Dar Es-Salam red course, another Robert Trent Jones creation. Well know for its difficulty, it challenges the professional in many different ways, from the numerous water hazards and bunker. It is also a long course at 6,702 metres and provides little opportunity to hit below par rounds. However for a remarkable setting and to have the opportunity of completing with the best it is a must to visit and play, or just sit back and enjoy the professionals slog it out in the annual Hassan II trophy.
If you game is not up to so much of a challenge, there is a second 18-hole and a 9-hole course which are mush better suited to medium to high handicappers.
